Black Marjieh & Sanford LLP Founding Partner Lisa Black will be a featured speaker for two sessions at the ClaimsXchange Annual Conference to be held in Philadelphia October 11-13, 2023.

The ClaimsXchange connects innovative and collaborative professionals who share a passion for advancing the claims industry. The ClaimsXchange Annual Conference will feature three days of sessions on a wide range of timely topics presented by industry innovators. Each day includes unique networking opportunities to meet new contacts and reconnect with friends and colleagues.

Lisa Black will join Brian Kennel, Chief Executive Officer and Lead Consultant of Perform Law, in a presentation titled Never Going Back to Business as Usual to be held on Wednesday, October 11 from 11 am -12 pm.

This presentation will be geared towards managing partners and those with responsibility for, or interest in, managing law firms in a “post-pandemic” world. From profitability to commercial real estate questions to employee engagement concerns, Black and Kennel will review the evolving strategies for managing a law firm and identify those that have proven most effective and those that are likely to prove most valuable going forward.

Lisa Black will join fellow presenters Ami Dwyer, General Counsel, SEA Limited; Diana Gerstberger, Vice President Casualty Claims, Arch Insurance; and Daniel Royce, Managing Partner, KPM Law, in a session titled Tens of Millions of Reasons Why. This presentation will take place on Friday, October 13, from 9-10 am.

The panel will discuss why addressing issues such as social inflation, nuclear verdicts, cancel culture, and psychology in the courtroom requires the full attention of the industry stakeholders, including the insured/risk managers, the carrier, and counsel to plan for and mitigate adverse outcomes. Using data from multiple sources, the panel will define the problems that increasing verdicts and unpredictable outcomes are causing to provide an overview of the industry-wide impact. The presenters will identify some of the obstacles that handling insured claims in a “business as usual” way presents when looking to improve outcomes, and discuss concrete and actionable steps for each stakeholder in the claim process to retake control of the narrative, manage the litigation and its costs and focus on the steps on the critical path to reach claim resolution.
